About the Book

The story the twins never fully told.

In this intimate family memoir, Laura Green Risser — Bob's daughter — traces the journey of her father and his identical twin, Dick, from the boys they were before the war to the men shaped by its brutality and the losses they endured.

Drawing on her brother's wartime insight and decades of family research, she brings forward the story the twins carried in silence. In doing so, Laura begins to discover the father she never truly knew — and the legacy that shaped the generations that followed.

Some men come home from a war and never quite come home at all.

Two Brothers, One War

Identical in every way but the lives the war gave them.

Bob and Dick grew up mirror images of each other — the same face, the same laugh, the same wide-open future. Then the world went to war, and it asked of each of them something different.

What came back was not what left. The Final Switch follows the twins through the years the family rarely spoke of, and the quiet weight one of them carried home for the rest of his life.

Bob's Daughter · Keeper of the Story

After she retired, Laura Green Risser turned her heart toward a single, patient journey — a twenty-five-year search for her father's story. Weaving together research, memory, and the deeper understanding that only comes with reflection, she brought to light a life he had never fully been able to put into words.

Laura lives in Maryland with her husband, where she continues to gather and preserve her family's history — a legacy she carries forward for her two sons and her growing circle of grandchildren.
